I love Trentino, especially Trento, for its nature, mountains, incredible history and culture, food of course and also because is the region of Trento Doc, my fav italian bubbles!
‘Trentodoc’ is a sparkling wine produced with the classical method only, with very high quality grapes coming from Trentino. The sommeliers describe it as a cheerful wine: vanilla, apricot, exotic fruits, nuts, and freshly baked bread, Golden Delicious apple (the typical fruit from the region), white chocolate and jasmine, are just some of the hints that it is possible to discover by tasting it fresh, never frozen, in large goblets, at a temperature between 8 and 12°.
Let me say that is an incredible product, the result of a unique relationship between mountains and vine. That’s why in Italy we call it “bollicine di montagna”. In fact scientific studies demonstrates the virtuous relationship between mountain and the cultivation of the vine in order to realize the ‘perfect’ vineyard. So Trentodoc is the direct expression of this incredible italian region, a small territory, but with an interesting climatic variety, ranging from the Garda Lake to the Dolomites.
Chardonnay grapes were first brought here from France around 1900 by Giulio Ferrari, who started the revolution. He was an oenologist and on a visit to Champagne in France in 1903, he realized that growing conditions were remarkably similar to those in the Alto Adige. So, on his return to Trentino he set to work making his own sparkling wine, using the method champenoise. Today, thanks to the efforts of 40 houses and 120 labels, this sparkling wine can be appreciated all over the world. http://www.trentodoc.com/en/
If, like me, you like to drink bubbles from aperitif to the table, Trentodoc is perfect, ’cause It can be combined with the typical courses of the Italian tradition, lasagna included 🙂 and obviously with the products of Trentino (from polenta and canederli to the strudel). Let’s say that the classic method allows Trentodoc to be an excellent partner for any occasion to toast and celebrate
Last week, while i was in Trento i’ve had the opportunity to do a fantastic Trentodoc tasting, inside the marvelous ‘Enoteca Provinciale di Palazzo Roccabruna’, a stunning nobiliary palace dating back to ‘500, in the historic centre of the city, in which it is possible to make a journey among these wines, all rigorously DOC. So here below a little selection of recommended labels
Last but not least…(honestly The King of Trentodoc)
Enjoy the holiday season with this fabulous sparkling wine from the mountains!
PS: remember that the whole Trentino region is an incredible treasure for wine lovers, full of vineyards and small producers to be discovered
